Medicare IRMAA surcharge checker
Higher earners pay extra for Medicare Part B and Part D — an “Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount” (IRMAA) that stacks on top of the standard premium. It’s a cliff, not a slope: one dollar over a threshold triggers the whole surcharge. Check where your income lands for 2026.
2026 figures: standard Part B premium $202.90/month; CMS-published IRMAA amounts. Your 2026 surcharge is set by your 2024 MAGI (adjusted gross income plus tax-exempt interest). A big one-time income event two years ago — a home sale, Roth conversion, or capital gain — can trigger it; if your income has since dropped for a life-changing reason (retirement, death of a spouse), you can appeal with Social Security form SSA-44. Brackets and amounts are SSA’s, per POMS HI 01101.020 — including the separate two-step scale for married filing separately. Not financial advice; details at medicare.gov.
